Is there any phylosophical approach to the relevance of having a fitness body (not a merely healthy one) and its real importance to a modern first world human? Are we morally bound to enhance our body up to peak performance?

I think there are philosophical reasons to become the best person that you can be, which would include physical fitness along with intellectual and moral "fitness" and growth. You don't have to get fit, the same way you don't have to learn, but in both of these cases you are neglecting the true potential of your body and your mind.
