I have a pair of Soviet officer's cavalry boots (pic related is from Google, but of the same kind, though mine are shinier).
They're entirely real leather and pretty damn comfy, plus they look impressive, but they're simple plain black so they don't look out of place as semi formal wear, especially as I live in the country.
Plus they came stuffed with decades old Ukrainian newspapers so that was fun.

Are American Civil War era kepis easy to wear? I have never tried one on, myself, but they look low-crowned and a bit flimsy to keep on, almost as though the wind could blow them off with ease. Does the top of the cap expand, or is it stiff like an earlier shako?
