In 1968 the Iraq government distributed to the farmers some wheat seeds covered in a red insecticide. They told them that those seeds were of higher quality because they were resistant to pest, and that they should ONLY BE USED FOR SEEDING.
A lot of farmers didn't believe them, and fed them to their cattle, which then died. Some even ate them, thinking the red coating was tomato sauce. They got extremely sick, some even became blind.
Those who survived, seeing those seeds weren't good for consumption, dumped them all in rivers, causing a mass fish extinction.
I do not know what lesson to draw from this. I just wanted to share it.
