How do you get your shit pushed in so hard that you're defeated by a bunch of peasants and have to flee to a tiny island...

You have to be more retarded and incompetant than Mao.

Think about that.

0 points in Charisma. He was the Stannis Baratheon of the Warlords Era.

Stannis was smart.
>>

Stannis was a General first and a King second, if at all. Chiang always chose the most militarily advantageous option instead of consider the impact it would have on the reputation of him and the nation he led in the eyes of the Chinese people.

Not really, no. He tended to choose poor military options as well. Consider his low prioritization of the Burmese campaign; he was completely incapable of grasping the link between re-opening the Burma road and getting a greater amount of supplies through, nor did he grasp the impact of the monsoons on the campaign once he decided to impart a shoe-string force to it.

A large part of it was Chennault convincing him that US Air Power would leave a trail of rainbows and dead japs for him all the way to Nanking.
>>
>>3313568
Which was dumb as shit too, and something he could easily know if he had bothered to pay even the most cursory attention to what was going on in military fields anywhere else. The 500 bombers that Chennault wanted do not rout millions strong forces, especially not without ground offensives to support.

The point was, he was a terrible military leader in addition to his other failings.

The Soviets gave Mao a TON of supplies, from the japanese and from their own designs. Literally anybody could have beaten the Nationalists with such overwhelming support.
>>
they were mass murdering sociopaths but Mao was charismatic as fuck and his close comrades like Zhou Enlai and Deng Xiaoping to name but a few were talented men who had talented and dedicated men under them.

Chiang was an average man with big ideas but surrounded by self serving and corrupt generals who were warlords in all but name. They should have won by any metric but they were never united to begin with.

Don't forget Peng fucking Dehuai.

People always talk about how the Chinese swarmed UN troops in Korea. But when you look at it from the other side, it's a goddamn achievement that whole armies of light infantry with very little air or armor support and no heavy equipment outside of a few mortars managed to somehow sneak up on vastly qualitatively superior UN forces without being detected by the air.

A lot of those talented and dedicated men had bad endings thanks to Mao, though.

Not really true, whilst they did give most of the crappy left over weapons from the Japanese (after they deindustrialised Manchuria)to the CCP they didnt supply them with Soviet ones. Indeed over the course of the war they did provide about 800 aircraft to the Nationalists under Operation Zet.

> Literally anybody could have beaten the Nationalists

The nationalists had a far larger and better equipped army, controlled the economic heartland of China. Not only that but the US delayed Japanese demobilization and actually air lifted KMT forces to cities to prevent communists from filling the void. Add to this they gave the KMT 4.2 billion US over a two year period.

However their corruption and inability to compromise with the peasantry lead to them being defeated by a smaller and lesser equipped army.

Not really, Stannis didnt have to be kidnapped by his own supporters to get him to fight the Japalings in the North.

Chiang was the Roose Bolton of China.
>>
>>3313498
mao was an excellent guerilla leader...but a terrible national leader
>>
>>3313756
If you read about the troop movements of the PVA its legit great stuff. Shame no one in china will make an objective history of hte korean war,
>>
>>3313488
Are we talking about when Brits got their shit pushed by American peasants and had to flee to tiny Britain?
>>
>>3313756
This motherfucker here is the only reason an army that got out of a multi decade long civil war that had to rely on donkeys for logistics was able to beat back UN troops to a stalemate. Historically very underrated as a strategist
