Why did they feel the need to make shit up in this scene?

If they wanted a scene where they badassedly kicked Fallschirmjager ass, why wasn't the fight in the sandpit with the King Tigers and the bayonet charge put into the show? It was easily the most badass maneuver Winters ever pulled.
