Hate to ask but I'm struggling with an essay to do with the first 4 major crusades and whether religion was the prime motivation for them. Not asking for an essay to be written for me but just any knowledge anyone has would be helpful.

Religion was used as motivation to convince people to crusade. It was not the motivation that stated them.
