Remember these days, when Britain declared war to China to sell them hardcore drugs ?

This is a simplistic view of the Opium Wars. It wasn't about the opium itself, it was about trade and access to the Chinese market, it was about sovereignty and dominance in East Asia, it was about the finances of the empire and the EIC, it was about imperialism and the control of Chinese territory and markets.
>>
>>3297847
>it was about trade and access to the Chinese market,
To sell opium
>it was about sovereignty and dominance in East Asia,
To sell opium
>it was about the finances of the empire and the EIC
To sell opium and so that the English could get their tee
>was about imperialism and the control of Chinese territory and markets
To sell opium
>>
>>3297852
That's like saying that the American Civil war was about farming cotton. Yes, the direct issue at hand was the sale of Opium, but it could have been any other commodity or issue. The fact is that the Chinese emperor challenged the authority of the British and denied them access to their markets.

There is a difference in history between direct causes and ultimate causes. The first world war was directly caused by the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, but this was not the ultimate cause.
>>
>>3297847
Is this the British equivalent of "the Civil War wasn't about slavery"?
>>
>>3297866
Not really. British imperialism isn't (much) morally better than the sale of opium.
>>
Hardcore deug my fucking ass: They studied that druhs like They ingrate D then and used them at The time) were actually very Healthy and didnt have anything bad about then it's The modern retards Who Made those (argusbly) bad
>>
Remember when China posed an existential threat to the very fabric of the planet's economy by racking up a huge trade deficit by being able to produce everything in-house and export for dirt cheap? Remember when only Albion was Perfidious enough to stop global disaster and then proceeded to stop a second Scramble by propping the Qing up?

if the global economy is so shit it can't handle a productive, protectionist country I'd say the global economy is at fault, not the country

>If you think a bunch of cunts sleeping all fucking day, waking up, and then having another hit is useful to anyone you're out of your mind
You're stupid.

We have millions of Americans hooked on opiates prescribed to them by the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries and they manage to get their asses to work every day.

How else do you get people to slave away their fucking lives to make profits for other people?

Right on, brother. Same way the American civil war wasn't about slavery, it was about trade... of slaves, and states rights... to trade slaves.

It's not our fault the Chinese weren't efficient in their drug addiction. We just streamlined the process.

Has anyone smoked opium the way the chinks used to? Is it the same effects as heroin? Of which all my knowledge comes from junky and the naked lunch.

Remember these days, when the USA declared war to Afghanistan to sell hardcore drugs?
>>
>>3297931
Not really. The American Civil War was one lot saying 'We hate slavery, but we restill gonna make money off of yours' and a second lot saying 'Get lost we're leaving then'.

It was the trying to leave bit that started the war. I'm not him but his point about causes and ultimate causes is valid.

The CSA were very clearly fighting for the right to trade slaves, but by forcing the sale of opium, Britain also opened up china for export and import, Tea was a commodity that the British people really fucking wanted, and with one of the world's largest tea producers being protectionist, that would cut off British tea supply, it was by no means a moral war, but there were clearly other factors to take into account.
>>
>>3297896
But it wasn't just A productive, protectionist economy, it was THE productive, protectionist economy.

China made everything for practically nothing and refused to trade with others for anything other than silver. This caused massive shortages of silver in Europe, due to it all going to the Qing. Due to silver bullion being the international standard for trade, and bullion being a limited commodity, this was a big, big problem.

You are right in that trading in bullion isn't a great international trading system, but when it's the only thing the workshop of the world will accept, what can you do but find something else they want to even the odds. It was either that of wait until you don't have enough silver to pay for the stuff you want (in the case of Britain, mainly tea).

No, because they ended in 1860 and there are no 157+ year olds.
>>
>>3297866
SInce when was the american civil war about slavery? it was one point but definatly not the main reason.
Is that what they teach you in amiland these days? oh boy...
>>
>>3297880
Are you okay? I ask as a friend(ly person).
>>
>>3301239
Since every state that joined the CSA cited being able to continue slavery as the primary reason for leaving?
>>
>>3297847
It was about Silver. The Chinese market made it clear that they didn't want any Western good and so the British engineered the Opium trade and made sure that the only currency that they would trade for Opium was silver.

The reality was that there wasn't so much wealth in Europe then the New World rush happened and they had shitloads of silver and gold then it funnelled into China then they used the Opium trade and the Opium wars to get it back
>>
>>3301239
It basically was about slavery. Later it was about slavery and 'us VS them'.
>>
>>3298076
>By punishing them for breaking Chinese laws?
Basically, yes. You can't have some ethnic barbarians telling you what you can and cannot sell.

Well the French weren't in on the opium in a big way but they went in on the wars anyway for trade rights and diplomatic representation.
>>
Opium was legal across most of the world at the time so it is a mystery why China was so susceptible. Even in 1905, long after the events of the opium wars, 25% of the male population were addicted.

some supressed thoughts there senpai

Because Chinese actually know economics.
Spain just kept proping up silver without any increase in trades or goods.
China on the other hand produced enough goods to counter the influx of new silver. China also had a shortage of silver, they had every reason to only accept it.

no background on strong recreative drugs usage logically causes massive drug addicts, and the chinese seem really weak (drug tolerance speaking)

so yeah, just what do you feel while on it, what is it so bad about opium?
