Welll, aside from the takeover attempt that landed him jail, what else about Hitler could the average German citizen know about him to vote against him?
>>
most people voted against the communists
>>
>>3293049
It's a shame...
>>
>>3293060
there were enough anti-communist parties tbqh, I really can't understand why so many voted for him.

Should have voted Zentrum or SPD.

the Zentrum basically became the CDU, the largest party in modern Germany.

Dude blood and soil lol. Kick all the foreigners out. Versailles the greatest tragedy in the history of mankind!
>>
>>3293068
>they aren't remembered as history's greatest monsters and the go-to example of who not to be like
Indeed it does.
>>
>>3293082
Yeah whatever...

I think one of the main reasons might be that many people thought an authoritarian leader would be a viable alternative to the unstable Präsidialkabinette governments.
>>
>>3293082
>Dude blood and soil lol.
There were other nationalist parties, that doesn't answer his question at all. The DNVP was also pretty authoritarian.
>Kick all the foreigners out.
what foreigners? the jews were assimilated into german society.
>Versailles the greatest tragedy in the history of mankind!
a melodramatic assessment

>>3293066
> Zentrum
it was a strictly political catholic party representing german catholic interests.
> SPD
only workers voted for SPD save a few enlightened intellectuals, academics and professionals

>4. Only those who are our fellow countrymen can become citizens. Only those who have German blood, regardless of creed, can be our countrymen. Hence no Jew can be a countryman.
>8. Any further immigration of non-Germans must be prevented. We demand that all non-Germans who have entered Germany since August 2, 1914, shall be compelled to leave the Reich immediately.

in the Kaiserreich maybe, not in Weimar Germany when the political parties gained more power. They were a middle-class, centrist and democratic (something noteworthy in Weimar Germany) party. It's true that most of their voters were Catholics, though.

>only workers voted for SPD save a few enlightened intellectuals, academics and professionals
don't know that honestly but the SPD were extremely couragious imo, when the Reichstag voted for the Enabling Act and SA men threatened all representatives they were the only ones that still voted against it nonetheless.
Many were sent to KZs, too.

Are you trying to make a case for or against democracy?
>>
>>3293049
They were tired of democracy that doesn't work.
>>3293060
This is a myth. In 1932 the Communists were more popular than in any other elections in the past.

People clearly wanted radical changes. The economic situation was terrible, there were new elections every few months, and Bruning, Papen and Schleicher failed as chancellors.

100-17 means that 83% still voted against the Communists.

ultra nationalists don't hvae a monopoly on determining who is a citizen or not. what nonsense
>>
>>3293171
Communists were a vocal minority. They had many followers and an armed militia and were able to publicly display they had strengths, but the overwhelming majority of ordinary average people hated them. Kind of like modern day feminists/altright.
>>
>>3293114
Hitler didn't have German citizenship until 1930 lmao

Now compare it to 1928 election.

You can say the same about the Nazis (or about any party, really).

yes, there were incredible changes but the communists still only gained less than 10%

when over 80% voted against the communists you can't claim that's a myth.
>>
>>3293049
It was this guy or being under the boot of the soviet union.
>>
>>3293209
Nazis weren't as extremist, they were no difficult than any modern Liberal or Democratic political party that wanted to maintain private property while stimulating the industrial sector through bonds and creating a welfare system financed by competitive free market economics.

Communists were about as far on the spectrum as you can be.
>>
>>3293215
>but the communists still only gained less than 10%
And SPD lost 10%. Communist were becoming more and more powerful with every new election.

14%
>1932 (November)

It's not only about economics, they were very anti-democratic. They did not hide their plans to destroy the democratic republic.
>>
>>3293234
>7% increase in 4 years
compare that to the NSDAP. That's nothing.
>>
>>3293082
>Versailles the greatest tragedy in the history of mankind!
The other german parties said this too though
>>
>>3293251
>a treaty that hurts Germany
>German parties oppose it

>>
>>3293239
To be fair nobody in Germany was democratic. The Germans as a people hated democracy, they even hated the word "Republic" and used "Freistaat" instead because it was too associated with the French.

Every party in Germany didn't want democracy, except for the SPD. Even the Centre Party voted for the Enabling Act. All the traditionalists like Hindenburg who hated Hitler also still disliked democracy.
>>
>>3293262
SPD, Zentrum, DVP and DDP were democratic.
Also the KPD members were banned from the vote (plus many SPD members) and armed SA troops supervised the vote for the Enabling act, so that's that.
>>
>>3293262
The SPD gained 40% in 1919. It seems more like the acceptance for the republic decreased over the following years, maybe because of the inability of the parties to form effective coalitions and the aggressive propaganda by the anti-democratic elements who blamed the 'foreign imposed' republic for every problem
>>
>>3293115
>They were a middle-class, centrist and democratic
You're mistaken. They became increasingly aloof from the republic, if they were ever dedicated to it at all. See Franz von Papen ffs. He was Zentrum and chancellor and he conspired to destroy the republic using Hitler as a pawn.
>>
>>3293229
>Nazis weren't as extremist
They were. They only hid its and airbrushed their image a little better, though they never really tried to hide what they stood for.
>while stimulating the industrial sector through bonds and creating a welfare system financed by competitive free market economics.
See the SA, Otto and Gregor Strasser, Rohm and other socialist elements in the party.
