I actually really enjoyed when they did that in a doc about Watling Street
some rare individuals don't need the human aspect, but it helped to drive some crucial points across for those who do
like the "roman" commenting on the pants shitting craziness of ~200,000 strong screaming human wave coming down on you from a hill and the fact that they actually survived that shit and fucking ROUTED that massive force with 10 times less men on OPEN FIELD, makes even "300" Spartans look like fucking pussies.
