Modern day Assyrians just like their ancestors are a Semitic people originating from the Near East. Unlike most others in that region, they are Christians. I saw a lot of the stuff they have in the British museum from Nimrud and elsewhere. Truly beautiful stuff, the wall carvings are amazing. It really hurts to see the Lamassu which survived intact in the same place for thousands of years destroyed.

Makes me actually thankful that colonialists took a lot of the stuff and it can be preserved for future generations.
