"Alright, in this class we will be discussing several ideologies such as Imperialism, Communism, Socialism, Nationalism and Fascism, which is particularly relevant today in our government."

My history professor actually said this on the first day of class yesterday..
Why is it that people HIRED to study and teach history don't ever know anything about the political aspects they teach?
>>
>>3277035
"ACADEMICS' ARE SIMPLY ZIONIST SHILLS. IT IS NOT SURPRISING THAT THEY LIE TO YOU.
>>
>>3277035
Fascism can mean whatever you want it to mean.
>>
What is the criteria for fascism?
Someone once posted a list of things that are typical for fascism and Trump met nearly all of them.
If you disagree, show at which point you would call someone or something fascist, give a criteria.

Historians are also all ultra lefstists. My work has to do with history and I know a few people who study history and they are the most "left" people I know.
The worst of the bunch once said, that liking a black guys hair is post colonial racism.
Not sure why you would study something like history, which has to be viewed from a neutral perspective, if you want to do politics.
>>
>>3277035
While accusing our government today of outright Fascism is a little hyperbolic, it certainly is a lot more right-wing and authoritarian. Did your Professor go on to explain his reasoning? Did you ask him about it?
>>
>>3277047
In this day and age, fascism is being throw around as an insult for anybody that is on the "right" spectrum. If you're on the left, you'll be called a communism. But it shouldn't mean it's adequate or accurate to do so.

I attended a history class about the history of nazism and fascism in contemporary Europe and the teacher (one of the most rigorous in the program) started with defining what was exactly fascism. For around three hours.
This shit is complex.
>>
>>3277065
No, it's not. You don't need 3 hours to define fascism. What use has a word if you need so much time to explain it, if it's that precise.

http://www.rense.com/general37/fascism.htm
All of those criteria are met by Trump. Or is there one you would say he does not meet?
(No idea about this site, just googled fascism criteria. If you know better ones feel free to share it).

this >>3277061 , people with autism tend to take things too seriously or too literally, he probably doesn't give 3 shits about politics and was just trying to be le funny cool professor

>10. Labor Power is Suppressed - Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government.
I can hear ideology through this...
>>
>>3277091
Or you could read Umberto Eco's essay on Fascism. I can understand the need to be incredibly specific given how jerky people's knees can be, but the core concept is not difficult to grasp; in Benito's words, 'all within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing inside the state', with the semantic details left to the dictator's discretion.
>>
>>3277113
Pardon, I meant 'nothing AGAINST the state'.
>>
>>3277113
I assume reading Benito Mussolini's Fascist manifesto will give someone some understanding of what it is.
>>
>>3277113
This. You can find a link to it here: http://www.pegc.us/archive/Articles/eco_ur-fascism.pdf.

>>3277035
To be fair to your history professor, Trump is rather fond of using fascist tropes in his speeches. If you read Eco's essay, you'll see a lot of Trump in it.

With that said, he's obviously not some kind of fascist dictator and the American system is far too robust for him to ever practically resemble one. Even the likes of Putin and Erdogan - who can exercise far more power than Trump - are authoritarian rather than outright fascist.
>>
>>3277126
It should, given that he almost literally wrote the book on it and was one of Hitler's greatest influences.

However, note that Fascism is really more of a mindset than a concrete political system, because it's based more on nationalistic ideas rather than concrete socioeconomic principles. Once you have the nationalism, racism (because how can you believe your people are superior if others aren't inferior?), and authoritarianism down pat, the fine details of what the state is and how it operates, who's within the state, and who's against the state are completely up to you.

Ultranationalism, totalitarianism and corporatism
>>
>>3277091
Here's an article where they actually interview and academic who studies fascism: https://www.vox.com/the-big-idea/2017/1/3/14154300/fascist-populist-trump-democracy

I don't like Trump, but not because he's a fascist, he's just not.
>>
>>3277057
I would say the requirements are
>palingenetic ultranationalism: the idea that the nation has been gravely wronged, especially by its own leaders, and has, as a result, fallen from heights and must be restored
I can see how you might get this vibe from Trump, but he's certainly not advocating it in the same way that Hitler or Mussolini advocated for it, hearkening to empires that were gone thousands of years ago.
As another anon said:
>corporatism - having the economy largely run by syndicates made up of workers, businessmen, and technocrats
>idealist vitalism - the idea that thoughts and actions influence reality and that, as a result, the nation can fundamentally change itself with mere willpower
>glorification of violence
While Trump has made crude jokes and statements about historical violence, it's not like he's led marches to try to overthrow the government and denounced electoral politics. I can't really think of any fascist who was willing to use electoral politics, they think it's inherently corrupt, and must be totally destroyed.
>>
During my history class last semester, we were discussing why Trump won. The profferer and her pet were saying that the rise of bigotry and the presidency of Obama made whites scared of minorities and made them vote for trump.

I asked why did states in the Midwest that normally vote for a democrat went red this time around and the professor once again said that white men were scared. When I mentioned that another professor said that trump spoke to workers, she said, and I shit you not , "well your professor and the workers who supported trump must be racist."

I hate community college. Kill me
>>
>>3277735
Really is fascinating that someone who claims to be against bigotry doesn't see the most elementary form of bigotry at all, namely class hatred.
>>
>>3277035
I mean some of my history professors made occasional remarks about conservatism but mostly kept it out of their work

The post grads however thought it was their mission to enlighten the world to the evils of imperialism and conservatism (which in their eyes were pretty much the same thing)

>Ican't really think of any fascist who was willing to use electoral politics, they think it's inherently corrupt, and must be totally destroyed.
Youre not wring about trump but seriously???? Hitler and mussolini came to power legally and pressuring governments to take them because of their ballot box support

>My history professor actually said this on the first day of class yesterday..
So? What else did he say?
>>
>>3277035
>My history professor doesn't agree with my trumby goober views, therefore he's wrong
>>
>>3278001
They didn't win elections though, they were given power because the government feared that there would be violence if they weren't given power.
>>
>>3277091
If you think you can define fascism without reading any fascist doctrines or fascist literature, or studying the history of the movement and instead just jump straight to LOL FASCISM MEANS AUTHORITARIANISM WITH PRETTY SYMBOLS, then you're a literal brainlet and so are your professors.
>>
>>3278031
>trumby goober
Is this reddit speak? I'm not a native English speaker so I have no fucking clue what this means.
>>
>>3278054
I think he means trump-ish goober (means something else but he probably is using it as gobbeldy-gook, meaning nonsense). He's not a very intelligent person
>>
>>3277035
Are we talking about actual professors or the burger kind where you say professor but mean teacher?
>>
>>3277091
