it was an ashkenazi project but the mizrahis were conscripted into it by stick and carrot, basically. otherwise it was born in europe, its ideology elaborated in europe and its early generations of leaders came from europe while the mizrahi were the "clay", so to speak, that the ashkenazis molded into their ideal of a jewish nation.
