The original Arabs were not a single group but hundreds of tribes spread over the peninsula. There were various semitic languages common in the region but Arabic became the main one.

Asia is a continent, pretty big one if you do decide to look at a map.
Europeans in the 14th and 15th century referred to the entire Asian continent as "India", including China, South east Asia, South Asia and Central Asia.

Asia used to refer to what is now known as Middle east, hence the term Asia minor.

So the original Asians were Middle Easterners
Original Indians were everyone else in Asia.

No, The Arabs were nomadic Asiatic tribes who conquered much of the Middle-East and North Africa in the Middle Ages. In Antiquity the Middle East was inhabited by many semitic tribes(they were also Asian, though).

This thread reeks of both bait and under ageb&.

First of all, Saudi Arabia is no more 'Arabia' than Yemen and the Gulf countries and parts of Jordan.

Asia is a continent and the word is used (for some reason) colloquially to mean an East Asian person.

"Arab identity" spread gradually as Muslims living among Arabs adopted the language. Tribes migrated to Egypt and South Iraq and the Levant, strongly supporting this shift and then it spread further.

Thus, the British called those people " Arabs" who speak Arabic and do not necessarily descend from Arabs proper but live in a society where those who do descend from the Arab Muslim saints are considered nobility.

It isn't an ethnic thing. Arab culture, language and religion erased most of the local cultural groupings of the middle east but they didn't ethnically cleanse them or whatever. It's like England. Only perhaps a hundred thousand or so English settlers came from the continent but their dominance in socio-economic terms led to the millions of Britons to give up their cultures to kowtow to their new masters.

This is the prime example why people from US can be called united statians and the people from America continent, Americans.
