Being honest Vietnam is pretty fucking respectable.
All their major conflicts were fought from the perspective of the oppressed defeating an oppressor or a super power.
Especially since the Vietnamese people are for the most part grudgeless against all their former enemies minus China. America has like a 80% or so approval rating among Vietnamese people last I checked.

Vietnam went under some economic reforms from the late 80's onward where private ownership of farms and businesses was encouraged, and economic deregulation was started. They still kept a lot of socialist policies, but they're pretty capitalist now, I'd say like the same amount of capitalism as the average European country.

Big part of this is the fact that close to 80% of the Vietnamese was born after the war.
