IIRC, Lee only owned slaves temporarily because he received them as inheritance, or he was the 'perpetrator of the will' (please correct me if thats the wrong term.) and he found the experience to be arduous and hated it, causing him a great deal of stress. Whether he supported slavery as an institution is debatable but he probably didn't.
