Yo /his/, what is the correct English translation for German "Ständegesellschaft" and "Stand", preferably in the medieval sense of the word. Also how would one translate "ehrbar" in the social context?

like even a humble craftsmen would be "ehrbar" unlike for example an undertaker.

What about free farmers with own land? Like the expression I am looking for is not a political representation or power, but the essential medieval feeling of being "ehrbaren Standes" . Like when you belonged to a respected community like a town or a village in the country side and had your rights and honors.
