I doubt it because each legion had several thousands of men, which makes unlikely for them to operate near enough of the next legion that they had to bother with an potential confusion.

And 3-4 legions fighting together on the same field weren't something unheard of.

A legion is 4000-6000 men.
Multiple legions make up an "exercitus." Meaning "force" or "army."
