Thoughts on this book?
Just got to the part where the kids are banned from speaking to each other, right at the height of the zionism vs anti-zionism stuff.
I'm not finished with it but I think its take on Zionism is really interesting. As a non-Jew I really don't care if Israel exists or not but if I were I'd be very averse to the idea of a Jewish state being formed before the coming of the messiah.
I'm curious as to why we don't see any more israelosceptic Jews anymore. What happened to them? Did they just abandon all sorts or tradition, similar to certain sects of protestantism? Could the Holocaust have been considered a "waking up" moment for Jews, like a mini reformation? Because it seems like they (the American ones at least) started becoming more secular right after WWII. Or maybe that's my perception after reading this, I don't know, educate me.

A Hasidic family that actually knows in depth Gemara broke the immersion too much for me.

Because Israel has been around for a while and nothing earth shattering has gone wrong, which weakened the position of most of the Israelosceptic crowd.

this also Israel itself has nukes meanwhile the old guard (England, France, etc) are totally out of the picture. And everything outside of Israel (Syria, Iraq, etc) has fallen to bits
