Yet another Nazi thread.
Is it true that people really got sent to Dachau or got arrested simply for telling a joke about Hitler? Was Hitler really that insecure that he couldn't handle a joke aimed at him or to the regime?

You have a decent question, sorry you have to deal with talks about /pol/. From the sources I've examined yes this did happen, but it did not necessarily stem from insecurity. A cult of personality is difficult to maintain without strict censorship and spread of information. Any joke criticizing Hitler would be meant with harsh punishment indeed, a concentration camp I'm not sure of, I haven't seen any sources to support this. At the very least, the restriction of freedom of speech did extend to criticizing Nazi officials, especially the Fuhrer.
Yes, authoritarian regimes tend to be touchy about that sort of thing. To give you an idea, Hitler once had an artist interned in a concentration camp because he didn't like a portrait that the artist had made (can't find his name at the moment). I do think that churches had a tiny bit of leeway in being critical of the regime (or at least its failures), since cracking down too hard on them could've cost them a lot of popular support.
Hermann Goering, on the other hand, enjoyed jokes at his expense.

But it wasn't an argument, it was a question. What's the problem with the question?
