HRE was the only ally PLC had at that time against the Ottomans. It was unwise to weaken them. And Poland mostly expanded eastward, while the HRE expanded southward.

At one point the archduke of Austria was elected the Polish king by part of the nobility, and because of internal turmoil had to try to take it by force. He was btfoed pretty hard, and was even taken prisoner. He was held as a """guest""" by the Polish general for over a year before being released.
That war ended any Polish-Austrian hostilities for the next 200 years.
