politics have always been a part of people's lives. even if you were a serf with no power whatsoever you would still be interested in your lord's holdings, or even if you were a roman slave you'd still like to know how your city is being ran.

Christianity was castrated during the French Revolution and ideologies basically became new age religions. When you remove God, the state becomes God.
