They considered war with Germany in 34 when Nazi partisans assassinated the Austrian chancellor Engelbert Dollfuss who was a close friend of Mussolini's.

they were considering joining the allies up until 1940
A lot of fascistic independence movements were originally quite pro-German before they realized they were being had, Bandera being most prominent

sad, Austria was actually doing *real fascism* as far as all that corporatism
also, that's a hilarious name for a dictator
Salazar was ideologically sympathetic to Hitler, yet he honored ancient treaties with the UK

I wonder what would've happened if Italy had went to war with Germany over Austria
Would the Italians have international support? Could Germany be defeated?

>Would the Italians have international support?
Maybe not directly. Other powers were butthurt that Italy invaded Abyssinia
but there was the Stresa Front before that, in which Italy/France/Britain affirmed Austrian independence and vowed to retaliate if Germany violated Versailles
so given the opportunity (appeasement was to avoid war - but in this scenario it's happening), and with Germany not as well armed as in 1940, I think these Allies would intervene and defeat Germany
