The lowest-skilled jobs actually started disappearing by the early-60's. Early automation eliminated some of the positions that previously went to the marginally-employable.
With those jobs becoming rarer, the marginally-employable spent time committing crime and being nuisances, which drove out functional people (especially whites, who were often targeted for attack), which led to an unstable situation by '67.
Basically you had a large, lightly-educated population of hillbilly blacks recently arrived from the rural south (or the kids of such) in a northern urban environment, and once economic security fell a bit, it all went to hell.

That Chrysler merger was a mistake.

No, companies decentralized their manufacturing process, they didn't need to keep the factories in one city and could move to cheaper areas.
Later on the offshored or moved to the right to work South.

Detroit putting all its eggs in one basket plus the creation of the welfare state causing nigs to feel entitled to more than they had
>traditionally black neighborhood (ironically called Black Bottom) was razed in favor of Urban Renewal and a freeway
>blacks had to move in overcrowded area
>hot night in July
>minor police raid on blind pig erupts in violence
>lefty mayor lets the rioters loot for a day hoping they would go away
>too little too late
The growth of black people and the decline of industry was inevitable, but the combination of riot, desegregating busing and a distinct lack of housing stock variety all led to massive white flight and the collapse of the tax base, which in turn led to the decline of the city
The massive population growth and housing shortage led to massive annexations of land and substandard, tiny houses on small parcels. Detroit has always had one of the highest rates of single, detached homes of any major city in the US. Many white residents left long before the riot for lower taxes and a bigger yard. Unfortunately the city was largely built out before housing design principles could be implemented to keep and attract upper middle class people. Obviously the riot was the nail in the coffin, but I think a few small changes could've led detroit to keep larger portions of its white population
I am a Detroitboo

To blame the welfare state as rhe problem shows how really uninformed you are.
