Classical Liberalism

Why was it abandoned when it was so successful?

the UK was once borderline Libertarian but now they are police state. Only in the USA seems to exist a sizeable classical liberal, not democrat's socialist liberalism.
>>
It was abandoned when "liberal" countries abandoned colonialism and slavery.
>>
It evolved into the modern political movements. Classical liberals back then didn't exactly see eye to eye on everything but society was much simpler back then. The woprld eveolved past it like it did with Feudalism and Mercantilism.
>>
Classical liberalism is a pre-capitalist political ideology that is unsuited to the industrialised world, as it is incapable of producing a sufficiently organised society to take command of the new form of economic production. It was formulated in, and applicable to, a society that was largely agrarian.

It was supplanted by social democracy.

>Why was it abandoned
It wasn't abandoned, it is still the core belief of much of Western world. Ideologies just lost their edge and blended together.
>>

Allows for easy infiltration by the radical Left.
>>
The most important issues for this ideology as envisioned at the time

>Free and global markets
>Freedom of speech, religion, free assembly and other rights
>Democracy or at least reduce absolutist regimes

Despite the cynicism of the modern age, most of these have been more or less won and ingrained in most first world nations. All major political movements at least pay lip service to all of these and even radical movements agree with some of these.

Free Markets have become a very unpopular position to take today and the rest of those issues have been won.

The classical liberal has won all major victories but has no future oriented goal left. All they have is trying to preserve these goals.

UK is closer to Frogland and all the currents of political upheavals of the Krauts.

>ideology based on freedom evolved into anti freedom ideology

Because Classical Liberalism's goals have been achieved in the west.
Free speech, democracy, right to assembly.

You can just as easily ask why was hunting and gathering abandoned when it was so successful? Things slowly evolved until the old system was no more.

Corporations became the key economic/social institution by the late 19th century i.e. the pooling together of massive amounts of funds collectively. Corporate capitalism created new issues liberalism couldn't handle, it separated ownership and management altogether. By the turn of the 20th century it had become necessary to control competition if you were going to prevent massive deflation and maintain the value stored up in financial instruments. Have you read the early political economists, like Adam Smith? They were all very sceptical of corporations and their ways of operating, probably because the memory of John Laws Mississippi scheme was still fresh in their life times.

Once you've got an upper/middle class with lots of assets they've got a vested interest in seeing legislation imposed that will maintain their wealth and power. If you own real-estate/stocks/bonds you don't want to see prices go down, you want prices to constantly go up.

Liberalism originally emerged as a critique of feudal privileges but liberal regimes created their own forms of vested interests that they have to protect by non-liberal means.

Classical Liberalism still has staucnh enemies like the Police State, Political Correctness and Cultural Marxism
>>
>>3218695
>Police State
Not in the west

>Political Correctness
dead

>Cultural Marxism
Critique of profit driven culture? Considering more and more culture is profit-driven I sincerely doubt that it is relevant.
>>
The Devil killed it.

>>3217883
But the core belief of much of the Western world today is literally fascism.
