Anybody else ever wonder what older soldiers/civilians from centuries past would think of their romanticization?

Some of them "might" be really confused by that question.

Really? I always am fascinated to see ww2 vets reactions to stuff like ww2 games or propaganda, and it'd be even more interesting to stare into the abyss.

Basically, what would an actual viking think about the show vikings/the band wardrunna, and similar questions about nearly all of historical figures

I very much doubt the upper tiers of society and professional soldiers at large would have minded being romanticized, but at the same time I'd think they'd be all pretty pissed off at the inaccuracies and constant injections of modern thought that ill fits with the time periods represented.
Plebs would likely just reee at us like conscripted vets.

I always find it fascinating that you can find variance. Almost all Vietnam vets are cynical, but all soviet rifles are surprisingly upbeat for having walkinged through a meat grinder. I never see one comment about how his platoons spleens tasted like on average when it was shrapnalized into their face, and you can even find memiors of them crying their countries name before death when theyd be shot for defection.
I don't care, just post more Ilya

Probably has to do with the cause being more justified and the reception at home being better.
death upon all of you
