I don't, that's my point. they turned these long term trends into stories about giants. Oral traditions can last centuries or even millenia (i.e aborigines). Of course they aren't accurate empirical records, but they often retain some event which has a basis in the past. In this case that event was the neolithic revolution. This event totally changed human kind and all civilization forever including their physical stature and health. It's reasonable to hypothesise that "giants" are a mythological repository of this event.
