What is the benefits humanity gets from having to raise their kids for 12 to 15 years before they reach puberty? Is it really only because of our brains that this process takes this long?
I know it is part of pack behaviour, but wolves and other pack animals dont take nearly as long
Humans havent been pack for a long time, we still have some remnants of it but civilization is far more advanced than pack.
Human brains are very expensive in all respects, and human environment is much more vast than some forests and hills.
Female hips are not suited for a longer pregnant period than 9 months or so. So the majority of development happens out of womb so to speak.
Children develop in social settings as well as in family units. And have far too much to learn for one lifetime.
Humans have no natural predators, so no reason to mature quickly and sacrifice complexity.
The benefit is mastery of environment.

So we are essentially in an evolutionary dead end?
>>3195840
Nope. Humans are so powerful, we're advancing faster than our biology. Its more like our biology is limiting us. Can you imagine how powerful we'd be if we could keep our greatest minds alive longer than 80-100 years?

I'm talking biological evolution, not technological advancement

wolves need to kill things all the time to eat and they're basically just meaner dogs.
they need to rush it because they couldn't get away with taking their time.
