Are historical stereotypes of a country's population still relevant, or after the 20th century have things changed too significantly?
Yes.

Bong here, some of this stuff seems to have just manifested it's way into a modern discourse

This is golden
Stereotypes are not an accurate way to describe an entire country's population ever.

I watched a doc on the american revolution a while ago, and british people thought the american colonist (this was before the whole thing went down) were dumb rural yokels, but were bigger and stronger than they were, and they mentioned something about higher up the social order men being pissed when their daughters would run off with these types. And it also talked about how southern and northern states didnt really like each other either, and one soldier from the north was fighting in the south and everyone would give him shit and call him yankee.
