γ and v is pretty different, OP. In gamma it's not really a sharp tip, but more like a...curl or something? The way you write it is kind of like writing cursive g except you don't leave any visible hole. However, I just read that the Latin letter gamma was ɣ, which indeed has a hole.
They will also look different if you write on a raised line paper. The 'tip' of gamma is below the helping line, while nu is just like regular/Latin v.
