even violent strains of communism that call for death of bourgeoisie are directing their violence towards people who have chosen to oppress (in their ideology). fascists direct their violence towards groups of people for factors they can't control like ethnicity or sexual orientation.

Because Nazism is fundamentally evil whereas Marxism is not. Marxism is merely calling for a societal restructure whereas Nazism post Dolfy is calling for autocratic removal of dissenters and world domination under a fascist state. It's like comparing eating some cheap food to feces.

i'd also say that there's barely anyone who lived under Nazism who's alive and loudly proclaims that they enjoyed it.

in contrast, there are still middle aged people who grew up under socialism and don't like the stark cultural turns their communities took when integrated into capitalism. it's really interesting reading urban ethnographies of East Berlin, for example, where people are openly (or at least were when these were in vogue in the mid-90s and stuff) upset about how they've been priced out of their own housing with reunification and their communities have splintered, art spaces have commercialized or been destroyed, etc.

for all the western propaganda that capitalism was nothing but relief from economic collapse, for the average person, opinions range widely. some people agree with that narrative, some people who were the modern poors that socialism benefited really hate the new ways.

Communism is the natural progression of democratic though. Fascism is a rejection of democracy and a return to the old ways. It also originated 20th century fringe movement and paid shills probably contributed to its development.
