How the hell did Boudicca's army of 200,000 get defeated by 10,000 Romans?! What did she screw up?
>>
>>3163128
>right lads here's the plan go on and walk up to them
>oops we lost instead of facing death like a hero I'll go run away like a slut and kill myself
>>
>>3163133
Basically this. Her tactics played perfectly into Roman strengths by charging a mass of undisciplined, lightly armed and armored warriors into the tightly ranked, strictly disciplined, and heavily armored legionaries. Basically it's the exact kind of battle that every Roman general would fantasize about having because it's guaranteed victory. Suetonious could have won just as decisively if he had half as many men as he did.
>>
>>3163128
Wedge formation.

It turned the Britons numbers against them, and squashed them against each other so they couldn't even move, while the Romans could pretty casually go about butchering their way through them.
>>
>>3163128
Well, first remember that all we know about it was written by Romans. Assume the numbers are exaggerated.

Then there's the superior tactics of a disciplined army defending a narrow passage against a frontal attack, or so we're told.

BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPPPP
>>
>>3163128
She was born a woman.
>>
>>3163133
To be fair and not women hating, most nobles at the time would commit suicide to prevent capture.
>>
She feared the black warrior
>>
>>3163128
Most of those 200,000 were civilians
>>
She didn't have any actual soldiers with her, they were just a pissed off mob
>>
>>3163185
From what I understand she didn't really have a choice. Just like with Arminius most of her followers were dumb as shit barbars who refused to change with the times and preferred a quick fight so they could get their loot and fuck off back to home, rather than bother with any formation of strategy or tactics.

The problem with all of those confederate uprisings was that the tribes tended to hate each other as much as the Romans, and if didn't give them quick fights and victories they were going to go their separate ways. Boudicca was pretty much fucked either way she went.

Holy fuck this is the dumbest thing I've ever read on /his/
>>

Have you not ever read the tale of Sardinia and the boats?
>>
>>3163202
underrated
>>
>>3163326
So you missed the parts where Arminius regularly quarreled with other tribal leaders on how to engage Germanicus?
>>
>trusting ancient sources with the enemy's numbers
How the hell did 20000 Greeks defeat 2000000 Persians?
>>
>>3163224
....and all the warriors of the Iceni tribe.

You DO understand how tribal works, right?
>>
>>3163128
>Trusting Roman sources
Good meme
>>
>>3163396
The Iceni tribe had already been disarmed by the romans though lol
>>
>>3163128
She hid in a ditch.
>>
>>3163224
at the exact same time a pissed off mob in Jerusalem beat the Legio X Fretensis and forced them to retreat to Alexandria
>>
1. There were definitely not 200,000 thousand of them, probably more like 60,000
2. They were fucking idiots. Their wagon train formed a line at the back to watch the battle, so when the initial charge failed they got boxed in and slaughtered.
>>
>>3163128
Probs on her period, lolz

>What did she screw up?
she fucked with most powerful army on the planet, just like everyone else who went against Rome and didn't catch them with their pants down
>>
>>3163485
>>3163190
So basically Pharsalus/Cannae?
>>
The british warriors simply could not stand up against the roman heavy infantry. The romans had big shields, iron body armour and helmets. The brits had war paint.
>>
>>3164783
Brits kicked Caesar's ass with fucking war chariots in the first ever Roman expedition across the channel.

Rome was more advanced yes, but don't paint Britons as fucking ooga boogas here.
>>
>>3164800
>Brits kicked Caesar's ass

Yeah.... Not really. He retreated from the island in good order. Chariots can not defeat heavy infantry when it is properly formed up.
>>
>>3163133
>implying the Romans were going to give her an honorable death on the battlefield
If she hadn't killed herself, the Romans would have taken her prisoner and made her a slave, or they'd have crucified her.

Hardly a glorious fate.

Basically this.
>>
>>3164219
Xe was z tranny.
>>
>>3164847
She would've died a martyr.
>>
>>3164924
She would have been another barbarian warlord crushed under the heel of Rome, she already had her martyrdom when she was flogged and her daughters raped, and blew it when she led her people to be slaughtered at Watling Street.
>>
>>3164924

Killing yourself rather than facing humiliation is actually a very Roman thing to do. Hell, Cato ripped out his own intestines rather than accepting Caesar's pardon, and he's far from the only example, merely the most extreme instance.
>>
>>3163128

Simple. Boudicca had tens of thousands of pissed off brawlers. Gaius Suetonius Paulinus had an army. Not to mention that Paulinus was an experienced commander who already subdued two rebellions before; one in Mauretania, the other in Wales. If a commander like this says...

>FIRST RANK, HOLD THE LINE

...they are going to hold the fucking line.

no but she might have been transgender apparently.

And by that time it had the gear of several thousand romans to choose from. Nor by being disarmed magically make a warrior not a warrior once he is armed again.

Nor does "disarmed" work the way you seem to think. They had no trouble taking cities and crushing roman field forces despite being disarmed.
