What's the story behind "shaved sides and back" haircut?
Where did it come from? Did the ancients shave their hair like that? How did they to do that?

Lol fatass
Not quite ancient, but a similar haircut was popular in medieval and early modern Ireland
I think its from Rome. A regular cut (Short on back and sides long on the top) is apparently the hair that roman soldiers had to stop the enemies grabbing their hair and the spread of lice according to the wiki on it (but there are no sources referenced in the wiki so it could be all shit)

Short back and sides is the patrician haircut, literally

Franks and Normans cut their hair like that. More comfy for wearing armored helmets and fighting and stuff.

Romans just wore their hair short all over...or shaved their heads.

Probably varied, I doubt Caesar would have the same as a legionary grunt, I remember that one general was so obsessed with Alexander that he copied his messy hair style.
Cossacks and Eastern nobility(Especially Poles) used to cut their hair like that.
