Gearlet shitposting aside, when and why did Americans stop driving manual?
Because we need it in our everyday lives, so we should be allowed to at least have some convenience with it.

When auto transmissions closed the fuel economy gap with manual transmissions.

Never, it's a retarded meme. Literally all Americans learn to drive manuals BEFORE automatics.

American here, I still don't know how to drive stick. Don't intend to learn either. I'm more focused on saving up for my concealed carry permit.

Stick posters are just insecure as fuck
Automatics were associated with luxury, post war the average family had so much income they could afford the extravagance. Since cars are a mobile sign of financial standings everyone tried to get an auto. After a few generations of the family hand me down car being a slush box a lot of people never learned to drive stick. And the cycle continues.
