Kenshin Uesugi is the kind of figure out of history who seems like more fantasy than reality. This guy was a pious buddhist monk and a ferocious warrior and brilliant general all rolled into one.

Every last foe he faced was treated honorably, in a time where life was cheap and cut down as frequently as tufts of rice.

His battles with Takeda Shingen and their famous rivalry seriously reads like it could have came out of myths and legends, and part of it undoubtedly has, but they were also real people doing crazy things.
