Weak argument and a very narrow definition of liberty. You can just reverse this: you can't have liberty if you want equality. Why? Because to achieve equality you need the state and legal system to impose restrictions on your ability to amass large amounts of capital and earn super high levels of income. If you allowed people to earn as much as they want, you're country won't be equal. You will have mega rich celebrities, aristocrats etc. If you want equality, you need to restrict their liberty - i.e. taxing them at higher marginal rates in income, capital etc; legal restrictions and anti-competition laws; and labor force regulations.
