Are there any interesting stories about Jesus that doesn't make it into The Bible, perhaps even were omitted on the purpose?

The actual legal account of his arrest, trial and crucifixion.
Jesus of Nazareth was subversive agent seeking to bring down Roman authority in the region.

>But the youth, looking upon him, loved him and began to beseech him that he might be with him. And going out of the tomb they came into the house of the youth, for he was rich. And after six days Jesus told him what to do and in the evening the youth comes to him, wearing a linen cloth over his naked body. And he remained with him that night, for Jesus taught him the mystery of the kingdom of God

yes many of the other gospels include different stories, pseudo-matthew is a favorite of mine

the gospel of Nicodemus also has a very interesting harrowing of hell, where it talks about how during the three days when jesus was dead before the resurrection he went down to hell, fought demons, and rescued all the righteous dead who had lived in the time before christianity. Despite not being canonical both of those gospels were quite popular during the medieval period and there are many churches painted with scenes from them. The harrowing in particular was a popular choice in biblical plays with companies building a literal giant mouth to serve as the entrance to hell.

Something I love about this picture, note how jesus kicked down the door to hell and it crushed a demon, its like something out of an action movie

> Teachers try to teach Jesus, but he proceeds to explain the law to them instead
Pretty interesting, Jesus had a radical childhood.

and here, start this video at 2:26 for an analysis of a splendid 11th century mosaic of the harrowing of hell in Saint Mark's Basilica in Venice

remember this story does not appear anywhere in the bible, yet this magnificent picture was made of it because it was a beloved story that so many people were familiar with.

Huh, I always thought that was part of the biblical canon. It was an impressive story, after all. Turns out that wasn't.
>>
>>3127782
No. Jesus was for majority of his life carpenter or other labour worker. And it's not some exciting job. Especially when you live in Nazareth of all places, literal village that was like 10-20 caves.
And consider how teaching worked like in acient Palesine. For majority of time you were walking from place to place. And you would teach the same things over and over again. And there of couse is work tha you would have o do so that you would not die out of hunger.
Of course we don't know every siongle thing that happened. But pseudo-gospels that were more or less fanfics have litte or not value at all since earilest writtings from people who knew apostles (and Jesus in one case) have nothing that even alludes to fanfic gospels.

That would be Barabbas.

Plenty of apocrypha and gnostic texts.
Why do you care about a false religion, though?
>>
>>3127830
>>3127849
It is biblical. 1 Peter 4:6, Zechariah 9:11 etc etc

Early Christianity is the very interesting period of religion. You can see how people differently reacted and were surprised by what now seems to be not even worth a mention.

>where it talks about how during the three days when jesus was dead before the resurrection he went down to hell, fought demons, and rescued all the righteous dead who had lived in the time before christianity

Why didn't they keep that as canon? It would solve all the problems with retards asking "so everyone before christianity is in hell?".

>dat demon
Laffin my arse off

>>3128319
>why didn't they keep heaping lies on top of lies, so that retards would stop questioning the lies

you are a fucking dogmatic piece of shit

Thinks like Arianism that was about highly metaphysical claims that are hard to fully grasp even now.

>people died over this retarded shit
>>

That parts in the actual gospels.
>>
>>3128319
It is canon, in churches that actually establish canon.

In his early yeas Jesus went somewhere to the east. Some people posit that he got in touch with Buddhism and spread these teachings back in a different format palpable to the west.

Obviously theres no concrete evidence on it and perhaps forever but it is interesting to note that around Christ's time was one where post Alexander the Great successor states had lived and flourished with greco buddhist kings for hundreds of years. The religion of Buddhism would have at least been known in the near east. Indeed Emperor Ashoka had sent missionaries that reached Syria, Egypt and Greece to preach their teachings.

It would have been an interesting sight for modern eyes for sure. Ethnic Greeks preaching the the 4 noble truths in Roman Alexandria.

Anyways didnt want to derail the thread but theres a large chunk of early life thats not really elaborated on.

In the Orthodox churches, Jesus basically turns into a Beowulf archetype warrior, fighting demons in hell. He BTFOs (((Satan))) and literally blows up hell.

The lines between Gnosticism and Christianity were (and still are) not clear cut despite what people often believe.
