>why there is no bigger current day taboo than considering constant technological progress bad?

Except it is constantly questioned?
>>

Where'd you get this notion
>>
>>3123542
Because with each technological advances, we're shouldering on an increasingly scarier prospect if things go sour. Thousands years ago, most you'll do is kill others within few hundred yards. Now we can kill the entire earth and maybe other planets and the solar system if we build up missiles. Hundred years from now, we'll have even greater potential to wipe out all lifeforms ever known.

Technological progress is not just a blessing, its a curse in disguise. With each great advances in the positive direction, there's an equal or worse advances in the negative direction. As long as our current morals standards and people are rational about things, we'll be going in the positive direction. However people can easily make irrational decisions and at the tip of a finger can destroy the entire world.

By who? The only political organization that questions the desirability of material progress is ISIS

Large parts of the population for much related to biotechs or at least for GMOs.
>>
>>3123585
It's not even missiles we should be worrying about, but the fact that we wont recognize the effects of our actions on the planet until it's too late. We lost 30% of our topsoil in the last 50 years, and we show little sign of slowing down.
>>
>>3123632
Not the OP, but I was talking about actual political organizations, all of whom have given themselves over to the camp of 'indefinite progress'. The left and the right and indistinguishable on this. Both believe that relentless economic growth is the target to aim for.

And even in your example anti-GMO individuals are often ridiculed and portrayed as hysterical and backwards railing against something they don't understand.
>>
>>3123621
Don't they just present natural phenomena instead of fapping to technological progress?
>>
>>3123542
Because if you stop, others won't and you'll get fucked.

>>3123601
There are plenty of ecological activist, organizations, political parties, international treaty etc.
>>
>>3123633
This.

Consider gene-editing human beings. The first few generations might be totally indistinguishable from a natural human and exhibit no negative side effects. In a long enough time span however, we could see severe repercussions. We simply don't know what we don't know, and that's a scary fucking thought. We had guys run st nuclear blasts before we figured out that that was a bad idea.
>>
>>3123642
Economical progress isn't the same thing as technical progress though, is it? And greeens and many environmentalists tend to give opposition to GMOs a political platform.
>And even in your example anti-GMO individuals are often ridiculed and portrayed as hysterical and backwards railing against something they don't understand.
Yes but the opinions of the media don't always represent any larger share of the population. None is as ridiculed as creationists and they got a few and powerful organisations pushing their way and failing solely because ID fails so hard at being a science and not religion.
>>
>>3123667
>Economical progress isn't the same thing as technical progress though
In political philosophy they're one and the same, both sides of the spectrum are on the side of endless progress and don't even question its viability.

The alternatives your bringing up exist entirely on the fringe outside the mainstream political discourse and in many cases those organized 'greens' are crypto-socialists who believe in historical dialeticalism. an idea that sits at the same alter of worshiping progress.
>>
>>3123542
The opposite is true. Constant technological progress is something lots of people see as bad even when there isn't much reason for them to do so. Just look at all the anti- nuclear power sentiment.
>>
>>3123684
>Worshipping one progress means you must worship all other forms of worship
Why?
>>
>>3123542
>no bigger current day taboo

Cannibalism and child rape say hi.
