I think your political beliefs are dictated by your place in society more than anything (income, education, status, surroundings, ethnic identity), so it's relatively stable for most people, unless you go up or down significantly or the society as a whole changes.

You can change politics beliefs as you gather more information and as your personality changes.

A cynic would change to a republican as they believe in themselves only and not others. An open minded would believe in others, thus liberalism works for them.

People can become cynic or open-minded as they age and gain life experiences. Then again, there are those in the middle who're cynical personally but also support the idealist notion (myself).
