I should use this as bait.

Its a broad spectrum. For instance nazis are leftist in some government forms and right in some ethical forms.

Take for example democracy and republicanism. Th e two u.s. parties of them hate eachother to dea th, but the two ideas dont conflict on many things. In fact the united states is both republican and democratic and a federation.

The same goes for cappitalism and communism. Capitalism is an economic policiy, communism is a political ideology. The only thing they clash on is private vs subsidized industry.

The left wing has become associated with social demands such as abortion, but thats just to get votes. Their current primary goals are isloationist socialism but with pro immigrant policies.

It's pointless to point out what the left was or is in some circles, nowadays, a LOT of the left is basically globalist liberalism, anti-nationalism, multiculturalism, etc...
This is what people think when they call someone a leftist, they aren't thinking about Marx or past leftist thinkers.
