How were Ancient greeks so big, they didn't have steroids?

Most were nothing like that. They simply lacked the calories to get that big. Some among the weltheir classes could become big, but nothing like that scuplture.

That's a depiction of Hercules. It's purposefully idealistic. Many Greeks were quite fit, especially the nobility, because gymnasium was pretty much a required activity.

Statues were exaggerated for aesthetic purposes.

Also that's a Roman sculpture, not Greek.

I think people in modern times tend to forget that in ages past that the daily labors that some people had to endure were equivalent to the most grueling cross-fit workouts.

greek sculptures aren't intended to be realistic, they were purposefully idealized. add onto that that this sculture is supposed to be fucking Hercules.

You don't need steroids to get that big. That's what you'd look like if you started working out somewhere from age 7-15 and continued inti your adulthood.
>>
>>3102600
Like many Roman sculptures, it's a copy of a Greek original.

I think you forget that most people where also had poor diets and often under nourished. They would br strong but sinewy.

Greek figured that a normal human was 8 heads tall. A child is less, i.e. their head is bigger in proportion to their body. This statue is something like 9 or 10 heads tall, so his head is tiny, making his body look massive.

Funny because the artists in the middle ages totally forgot about this proportion thing, so all the babies are like 7/8 heads tall instead of 4/5.

Also, they did use "steroids", from drinking stallion urine to eating bull testicles. Gotta get that T
