Dunno I'm curious if someone could answer who has read more on the battles and tactics.
All the painting show cavalry charging into pike blocks with musketeers shooting? Is that just romanticism because that seems like suicide? How did any side push the other? Massed artillery? Cavalry charges only on disorganized areas of the lines? Also what role to the swordsmen play? Could they break lines? It seems sorta like a weird variant of diadochi warfare but different due to guns

guns inaccurate, it was a little similar to hoplite warfare
cavarly had pistols, they discharged them up close but not actually charging into pikes, unless the formation was already breaking up
Pike and shot formations. Best one was the Spanish tercio imo.
