What do you think
>>

They didn't think they were attacking the world at the time. It was just Poland, then France and Poland, and the Brits and French and the Poles, etc. Hitler wanted peace with Britain before moving forward, but figured attacking Russia with Japan would cause the Brits to seek peace.

Master diplomat, shitty strategist.

What did (((he))) mean by this?
>>
>>3045694
Hitler is a master diplomat in the eyes of german culture
>>
>>3045694
I meant he was able to skillfully take advantage of entire countries and single individuals. He knew how to rally support and instill loyalty. He knew how to read the political climate and navigate countrie's desires. How else could he do what he did? The only he didn't how to do was face adversity after success. After the Rhineland, he felt like he could do anything. After France he was convinced. Then he started to royally fuck up.

The very first victim of Hitler's U-boat war was a British passenger liner, the SS Athenia. The incident resulted in 117 deaths, including 18 U.S. citizens. Hitler, not wishing to provoke the U.S. at this time, ordered a disinformation campaign surrounding the sinking. The Kriegsmarine vehemently denied involvement, insisting that they would never sink a civilian vessel without warning. Joseph Goebbels crafted and disseminated conspiracy theories that the Royal Navy had deliberately ordered one of their own submarines to sink the vessel, a claim which could have hardly been endearing to the British public.

HEIL DER FURHER

Hitler saw himself as a new Frederick the Great. After his massive conquests in '40/'41 (basically "his Battle of Leuthen") he was convinced that fate (and the concept of fate was always a fairly important part of his rationale) would bestow on him a miracle like that of the House of Brandenburg, fighting most of the world's superpowers, and prevailing whilst being on the brink of defeat. Did the German populace share this illusion? Maybe, maybe not. Anybody with half a brain would have been to afraid of to speak out and the rest gobbled up the Nazi propaganda, or were indoctrinated in the Army/Party. Also, if you tell the people often enough, that they are better than everybody else and on some kind of holy crusade to save the fate of humanity, they will want to believe it (see /pol/), even if it goes against intellect, in the context of the time, after the humiliation of Versailles, large parts of the populace wanted to think of themselves as invinscible. In conclusion I'd say, that quite a few Germans wanted to believe, that they could take on the whole world and win, but it is important to look it at in the context of the era.

You, I like you anon.
You actually make a thread about Hitler that isn't /pol/ bait trash and you ask a genuine question concerning history.
>>
>>3045647
Of course not, they just believed they could invade massive chunks of Europe and treat Eastern Europe the same way the Brits and French treated Africa and the US treated the natives in North America and get away with it.

The sheer stupidity and autism by the Nazis is self evident as is the hypocrisy of the Allies.

After conquering France and Norway the Fascists controlled basically all of continental europe. They were probably the single most powerful power block. Note that the US, although similar in economic size, was a military dwarf and was not seen as a serious thread by the Fascists. So what they faced was the British empire and the Soviet Union, neither of whom were more powerful then Germany. Taking both at the same time was obviously extremely risky, but it wasn't impossible. First you defeat one of them, then the other. In hindsight maybe he should have picked defeating the british Empire first, but maybe that would have turned out even worse.

>Note that the US, although similar in economic size
It was actually about 4 times the economic power as the entire nazi sphere.

> was a military dwarf and was not seen as a serious thread by the Fascists.
Yes, they were very poor strategists, I believe this is usually understood.

>So what they faced was the British empire and the Soviet Union, neither of whom were more powerful then Germany.
Either alone outproduced Germany during the war, so I'm not sure what metric you're using to say that neither of them were "More powerful than Germany".

> In hindsight maybe he should have picked defeating the british Empire first,
With the navy he didn't have, or the airforce that was being outproduced by the British every month?
>>
>>3047870
This

British production figures were actually quite impressive even with the help of the US aid

It's from an American propaganda video. Obviously never happened (and never could have happened even if the Germans conquered all of Europe).
