Do you think that ideologies are the product of the mental illnesses or perhaps even causes of them?
Didn't the Soviets use this as an excuse to lock up dissenters as mental patients?

Accurate. That's where you find all the (((you know who's))).
Libertarian Right would make the most moral sense if the majority of people were capable, competent, and intelligent. Unfortunately, the vast majority of humanity is functionally retarded and would immediately devolve into petty, warring, hunter-gatherer tribes if they didn't have their betters around to tell them what to do and pass on specialized knowledge. That's why so many people are attracted to libertarian left ideology, either they are stupid and reliant on others for survival or they were raised in an environment surrounded by people that were. They mistake charity as kindness then grow to take it for granted, believing the whole world can simply run on kindness. Pure delusion.
In the real world, the only moral and practical ideology is the Authoritarian Right. As long as within the system there is a structure that provides opportunity for the competent to rise through the ranks, it will lead to the greatest prosperity for the greatest number of people.
Mental illness, or deficiency, often does inform political ideology but that's why those of sound mind should have the confidence to correct people who do not have the competence to make up their own.

How could you possibly say this? Maximization of sytemic potential should be the highest ideal. This isn't an issue of happiness, well-being, or some other nonsense, the priority is efficiency and collective achievement. The moral obligation is not to any single individual or emotion but to the prosperity of humanity as a whole.
Then, for those who value achievement, happiness is a by-poduct.
