He worked for the los angeles water and power department. Not sure if it's socialist or not but considering it's commifornia I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

It wasn't actually socialist but it was accused of being so constantly by private competitors. Although Los Angeles got within a few thousand votes of electing a literal socialist mayor back in 1911.
