There's something magical about mid-20th century space exploration
>>
so who is at fault for ruining everything?
>>
>>3026961
Americans, for wanting low taxes rather than cool space exploration.
>>
>>3026962
>for spending all their money on bombs instead of rocket ships

fyfy

this fucking meme again
>>
>>3026962
More like we spent it on pointless wars and welfare.

but also
>americans ruined space exploration for everyone by ignoring their own space program
pick the the slack then
>>
>>3026962
>>3026964
Maybe if you lazy ass foreigners would get off your dead asses and start actually DOING something instead of just sitting there and bitching about what we do, you could continue the legacy without Daddy America always doing the heavy lifting
>>
Hoax.
>>
>>3026977
Sad truth.
>>
>>3026962
implying americans actually did it for the science and not for who has the biggest dick contest.
>>
>>3026961
Time basically.

For a while there was a feeling of "we can do anything". Then the last 20 or so years happened and we realized we basically hit the wall of what we could do in space and that actually exploring it beyond sending out satellites or living in it is completely infeasible so our souls will be forever weighed down by gravity though at least that also means colonies won't get dropped on Straya.
>>
>>3026961
The nig-spic cycle, as described by the eminent professor and scholar Bumbling American.
>>
>>3026977
Americans stay goat.
>>
Because in the 70s all the questions changed from "how should we do this" to "why should we do this"

the slowdown was R&D. the technological leap to get man to the moon involved co-opting nazi scientists. then after the moon landings, technology went into overdrive and space exploration headed towards functionality.

frankly, there's not much they could do with moon rocks, maybe in a theoretical helium powered future, maybe. so it all went to satellites and communication systems and lasers, evidently because you can watch 1080p porn in the woods and the eye in the sky knows you're doing it.

especially with the end of the cold war and the space race, there was no longer a propaganda purpose in having rockets and men plant flags on stuff. And why send people when you can send robots that don't need food or payload penalties, deal with radiation or loss of life (which may very well have happened since the first what two or three rovers blew up or tumbled into deep space? that shit takes time, funding and layers of technological leaps to develop, which it did.

all in all it could have used some extra funding but if you make some meringue 3 weeks before the rest of the pie it's pointless.

Previously the idea of private space X was foolish, childish and had investors cringe and run. But, as we see now it's perfect venture capitalism, the margins are solid. Sure space tourism is a fun side-project but the real money comes from telecom and mining, and there's fuck loads to mine.

The first colonists on mars, what do people think they'll do? sure there's going to be some scientists and support staff but that's not a lot of people. hardly a colony. The real colonists will be blue collar industrial types harvesting resources and servicing ships and transforming resources from the asteroid belt and moons of Jupiter, all likely drones.

Social security and medicare are forms of welfare and they have accounted for an ever increasing percentage of our budget.

Or did you think I meant food stamps for blacks?
