Capitalist economy, and ultimately economy in general. The assignment and privileging of the exchange value of a good that is necessary for its entrance into the market as a commodity, in the end, results in the erasure of all particularities of the object that make it valuable for itself, insofar as the object is correlated with an abstract quantity (its price). The emptiness of culture is a result of the progressive expansion of what can be counted as having an exchange value.
