Abyssinia or even Axum was Northern Ethiopia and Eritrea. The eastern parts were always Somali and still ethnically are thats the whole reason they started the war in the 70s.
The southern part of Ethiopia today is either Oromo or Nilote. The more "negro" looking nilotes were enslaved by the Abyssinians, Oromo and Somalis. The Oromo had their own shit until they were dominated by the Abyssinians and Somalis.
The idea that Ethiopia = Axum or Abyssinia is half true. Only the Northern parts have claim to that, the rest were their own kingdoms or tribals. The southern and eastern regions were added in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
