White Americans are generally a mish-mash of English, German, Irish, Czech, Polish, Norwegian, Dutch, French and some Italian immigration.

The black or Indian mix is a meme. It was black slaves that were given bastard children by white plantation owners, which eventually returned to blackness. all American blacks have some white in them, but whites do not actually have black in them. There are only recent instances of mixed-race people.

Exactly the same with American Indians. The "My grandmother was a Cherokee queen" meme is just that.

I think that they kind of did at one point but the indefinite migration has left them hopelessly muddled. I think that around the early 20th century a kind of generic 'American' face was starting to emerge but then they got flooded by the entire planet so they've remongrolized. I've kind of noticed the same thing in Australia. There absolutely used to be an 'Australian' face but it's pretty much gone now. A lot of older guys have it but everyone's half-this or half-that now so it's going extinct. Every Australian man used to look at least a bit like Chips Rafferty. Google his face right now and tell me that that isn't what comes to mind when you think Old Australian. I'm not certain but I'm pretty sure he was the inspiration behind the Sniper in TF2.

Although times are rapidly changing, before you could tell what an Americans heritage was by where they lived. Scots-irish on the periphery, English in the heavy population centers of the east. So for example my home state of Virginia had for the longest time a very old variant English accent that has since declined due to the population shifted of the naval base. Similarly, out west in the Applachians has/d a distinct accent which is a leftover of them being scots-irish.

That subject matter is a little complex. The fist issue is that a lot of people with American Indians in their family tree have not idea what group those Indians really are from and American laws had weird 1/16 standards of race mix back in the day. Basically if a person was 1/16 Indian they were Indian to the US federal government if the matter came up. In earlier periods that could mean bad things like being forced on a reservation or in some states being barred from office. For example my Grandfather was 1/8 Blackfoot and a small town sheriff. At one point over the matter of the former some people tried to force him to stop being the latter. They almost got the state to kick him out over the matter.

Anyways it likely is common for a white American to have a grandparent who legally speaking was a Indian. The other issues is that the Cherokee tried very hard back in the day to grow their population base. Adoption and assimilation were the main tools. As far as I know they were the only group of American Indian who did assimilation large numbers of European when compared to their base numbers. The end effect to this is that their are people who had ancestors documented as having walked the Trail of Tears but have no meaningful amount of American Indian DNA.

it's regional I'd say, hard to call it "distinct" I think there's a very old word originally used to describe it "melting pot". I guess its fair to speculate if the early birds have some founder effect going on.

predominately Anglo-Saxon settlers, some French but not many since New-France was sparsely inhabited but that's where you get place names like Des Moines. a whole bunch of early colonies were absorbed

large migratory triggers here and there, earthquakes, volcanoes, famines, etc.

if you'd have to pick generalized labels, most would fit into "English" "German" and "Celtic" but that's selling history short for the sake of simplicity.
