Is it true that past Japanese armies(like kamasutra period or earlier) before the invasion of the mongols l, used to have a style of warfare with single combat where one dude from each opposing side would fight at a time, one on one, rather than using multiple units to out flank the opposing army like most armies in the world did at the time?
Why would anyone do that as a primary strategy?

Alright, I see, It was just romanticized. That would be highly impractical and battles would take forever, even if they fielded less soldiers in the past, say 1000). So, like most of the world, they only seldom used it as a secondary strategy to avoid mass blood shed? i.e. let the two "strongest warriors" from each side duke it out and whoever wins decides which army is victorious?
It wasn't one at a time, but if I remember correctly samurai would have their banners so they could challenge a given samurai to one-on-one combat during the battle.
Yes, but only during the hentai period

>hentai period.
Now, anon, please.
Actually they used a strategy called "blitzkrieg" which means ultimate lightning cucking in Deutsch involving fast moving Panzer units making breakthroughs through the enemy weak points and then shooting out atomic bombs to blow up the enemy before paradropping from the tank behind the lines and cutting them with scissors

Exactly, though arbitration was more common in situations like that where neither participant really wanted a fight.

False, the Hentai period wars were characterized by multiple attacks from all angles
