Who were the Mamluks beyond owning Egypt in EU4? (Did they even OWN it in real history?..)
Where did they come from, where did they go and why was my slav ancestors part of them, what made them differ from the rest, were they truly as badass as they look?
Tell me all this my friends.
Mamluks are basically what would happen if the French Foreign legion decided to found a state, heavily militarized soldier aristocracy

The origional Mamluks were slave soldiers of the early Islamic caliphates. Muslims weren't supposed to kill other Muslims, so the caliphates used slave soldiers as a way to get around that. In this sense, they are not too different from the Turkish Janissaries.
Just like the Janissaries, the over-reliance on Mamluks meant that eventually they got too much power and influence. Unlike the janissaries, the Egyptian Mamluks actually took over the country instead of just assassinating a sultan whom they didn't like.
They were mostly steppeniggers or people from the caucasus trained to fight like steppeniggers
